Performance standards and class designations
1/ Determine Load
- Cable tray supports cable the way briges support traffic. Just as a civil engineer must know the load and support span of a bridge, we must know the load and support span of the cable tray
- Loading and span factors are very important when specifying the cable ladder. They are essential if you are to choose the most economical ladder system to fit you needs.
- The working load capacity represents the ability of cable ladder to support the static weight of cables
- Very large diameter cables such as interlocked armoured cable can use 300mm run spacing the most commonly specified spacing is 50mm
2/ Specify load depth
- The distance from the top of the rungs or bottom ribs to the top of the side rail is called the load depth or inside. This is normally 50 or 100mm and determined by the size of the cables to be installed
- The overall height of the tray and the inside depth are offten not the same, so it is important that you specifiethe required loading depth
